About
About Me, Sarah Poole.
Hi and welcome. As a counsellor, I have a client-centred, process-oriented approach and believe that change IS possible. My work crosses a broad range of issues such as anxiety, depression, neurodiversity, gender and sexuality, relationships, trauma (episodic and developmental), relationship and family dynamics, post traumatic stress, attachment dynamics, phobias, insecurity, anger, grief, obsessive and compulsive behaviors, dissociation, and peak performance. I have worked with a diverse group of clients, including those from various cultural backgrounds, age groups, gender and sexuality identities, and socioeconomic levels.
My approach to clinical counselling is rooted in the idea that the body holds knowledge that cannot always be expressed through words. I firmly believe that change is possible through connection and awareness of self. I aim to work alongside clients, meeting them where they are, and to help them gain safety and comfort in their lives, their relationships, in their bodies and with themselves. By incorporating both cognitive and emotion processing techniques, psycho-education, and exploring emotional and behavioural patterning we can find what fits. In April 2024, I will be certified in Somatic EMDR.
As you connect to our own worth and value in the world, you can develop the capacity to move through difficulties with more grace and self-compassion.
My hope is that you always leave our interactions feeling seen, heard, and supported in your growth and healing journey.

I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from UBC and I work with youth and adults looking to gain understanding and healing of trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and other emotional and mental health concerns. I believe we have resilience built into us and sometimes, most times, self-compassion and acceptance are the lost along the way. I am is invested to staying up-to-date with the latest research and developments in the field of counselling and I am devoted to expanding my knowledge and skills. I have taken many training courses in trauma work, EFT, and somatic work.

The Guest House poem by Rumi is one that has held tremendous meaning for me. I frequently encourage my clients to slow down and turn towards their difficult emotions, welcoming them with curiosity rather than judgment. Our emotions are often guides to deeper meanings that won’t be realized if we judge our emotional experience as 'wrong' or is layered with guilt and shame. The Guest House by Rumi beautifully invites us into our most difficult emotional experiences with a profound sense of hope. Read it slowly. Read it often.

When not in the room, I am enjoying and relaxing in life with my partner and family (cats and dogs included), learning to sail, embracing time with friends, travelling or planning my next Camino de Santiago in Spain. I wish you a "Buen Camnio" (good way) and hope that our paths cross when the time is right.
